SIDE or SIDE WITH?

 • My mum does not side my brother whenever there is a quarrel between  us. ( non-standard)


My mum does not side with my brother whenever there is a quarrel between us. ( standard)

The verb ‘side’ is intransitive when it means to support someone in an argument against another person. Therefore, it doesn’t take its object directly.
